Deliberations by experts from the automobile sector on the future of mobility in India took place at the Conference on “Modern Automotive Technologies for Future Mobility in India” organised by Confederation of Indian Industry at New Delhi, today.
In his opening remarks, Mr M M Singh, Conference Chairman & Executive Advisor, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd emphasised that the Indian automobile sector needs to deliberate on the new challenges that are being created on account of ever changing customer demand and emerging new technologies. He added that the Government is coming out with new rules and regulations for curbing vehicular pollution for which we all need to join hands to convert this challenge into an opportunity.
Mr Navid Shoukat Talib, Conference Co-Chairman & Operating Head – Manufacturing, New Model & Quality, Honda Cars India Ltd addressed the participants on “Competitiveness through adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies”. He mentioned that AMT is the use of innovative technology to improve the produce and processes. Highlighting the benefits of AMT, Mr Talib said that it leads to faster development of new products, improvement in quality, reduction in cost, amongst others.
Mr Pradeep Nair, Managing Director, Autodesk (India & SAARC) made a presentation on “Preparing for the Future”. The presentation revolved around three broad areas viz studio of the future, moving from design to engineering and marketing of the product.
In his address, Mr Rattan Kapur, Past Chairman, CII Haryana State Council & Past President, ACMA & CMD, Mark Exhaust Systems Ltd gave a perspective on Electric Mobility. He emphasised that in order to make the roll out and functioning of e vehicles successful in our country, the up gradation of supporting infrastructure is required.
Mr Vikram Kasbekar, Executive Director – Operations (Plants), Hero MotoCorp Ltd made the Keynote Address. He said that we are moving from BS IV emission norms to BS VI and at the same time discussions are taking place for E mobility. Mr Kasbekar emphasised that to make the e mobility programme successful, the government needs to formulate stable and sustainable policies. There is also need for setting up in house R&D manufacturing and design facilities in India.
Mr Rajeev Singh, Partner – Automotive Sector Leader, India, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP made the Theme Presentation in the conference. In his presentation, Mr Singh mentioned that consumers globally are keen to travel faster, utilise travel effectively and want to reach their destination comfortably. He emphasised that when all these three needs are emphasised than it is called sustainable mobility.
Mr Nishant Arya, Chairman, CII Haryana State Council & Executive Director, JBM Group delivered the concluding remarks and vote of thanks.
A CII-Deloitte report titled ‘Forces of Change: The Future of Mobility in India’ was released during the conference.
